On February 24, 2025, on the third anniversary of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and on the National Day of Prayer, which was established this year by the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, prayer services were held in the churches of the Vinnytsia-Bar Diocese, in institutions and establishments where priests were invited, as well as in military units where diocesan chaplains serve.
At the Transfiguration Cathedral in Vinnytsia, the prayer service was led by Metropolitan Symeon of Vinnytsia and Bar. Together with the clergy and parishioners, the Archpastor offered prayers for the Motherland, for victory over the aggressor, for the soldiers who defend Ukraine, for those who are in captivity and under occupation, for the wounded and sick, for the internally displaced persons, for all those who are in difficulty and trouble because of the war unleashed by russia.
A special prayer was offered for the fallen heroes who gave their lives defending their homeland, Ukraine.
At the end of the prayer service, the spiritual hymn of Ukraine "God the Great is One" was sung, after which Metropolitan Symeon addressed the congregation with an archpastoral word.
Information.
On February 12, 2015, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved Resolution No. 12412 on the establishment of the National Day of Prayer in Ukraine, which will be celebrated annually on February 24.
The legislative initiative was initiated by members of parliament. In the explanatory note, they noted that after russia launched a full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Ukraine survived thanks to "a highly motivated army, Ukrainian society, which demonstrated extraordinary unity and solidarity, as well as prayer for Ukraine, which rose up around the world in those days."
As the deputies emphasized, "there are many examples from history when a national prayer changed the course of history."
"Today, Ukrainians are defending their independence and identity, protecting their right to live freely on their own God-given land. Prayer to God is a supernatural power for victory and a guarantee of consolidation and unity of Ukrainian society. A common prayer will protect Ukraine and those who continue to fight on the battlefield, will be a testament to the spiritual unity of the Ukrainian people and a symbol of our unwavering faith in victory," the explanatory note says.
It is noted that the adoption of the resolution will contribute to "preserving the spiritual heritage, strengthening the patriotic spirit and consolidating Ukrainian society in a common prayer for the victory and restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine."
