On November 24, 2023, on feast day of of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine and St. Mercury of Chernihiv, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kyiv and All Ukraine led the Divine Liturgy at St. Catherine's Cathedral in Chernihiv. This is reported by the official website of the OCU.
The Primate of the autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church was concelebrated by Metropolitan Symeon of Vinnytsia and Bar, Metropolitan Oleksandr of Pereiaslav and Vyshneve, Metropolitan Yevstratiy of Bila Tserkva, Bishop Paisiy of Zhytomyr and Ovruch, Bishop Pavlo of Khmelnytsky and Kamianets-Podilsky, Bishop Anthony of Chernihiv and Nizhyn, the Diocesan Bishop, and local and invited clergy.
The service was attended by soldiers - defenders of the Motherland, representatives of local authorities and parishioners.
After reading the Gospel, His Beatitude delivered the first sermon and offered a special prayer to the Lord at a time when the Motherland is in danger.
Also during the service, prayer requests were made for the soldiers who are defending Ukraine, for the government and our people, and for the repose of the souls of all the fallen defenders of the Motherland and civilians who died during the war.
At the end of the solemn service, a prayer service was held to the Holy Great Martyr Catherine and St. Mercury of Chernihiv, hegumen of Bryhyny, whose relics are kept in the cathedral.
In addition, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine honored the military personnel and benefactors of the diocese with church awards.
