On July 28, 2024, on the 5th Sunday after Pentecost, at the invitation of Bishop Theognost of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna, Metropolitan Symeon of Vinnytsia and Bar visited the Holy Ascension Church in the village of Luzhany, Chernivtsi region.
A solemn Liturgy was celebrated in the church. The service was led by Metropolitan Symeon of Vinnytsia and Bar, concelebrated by Metropolitan Oleksandr of Pereyaslav and Vyshneve, Bishop Theognost of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna, the Rector of the church, Archpriest Roman Paliychuk, and local and invited clergy. Before the Liturgy, the hierarchs consecrated the new paintings of the church.
During the service, petitions and prayers were offered for the Ukrainian army and Ukraine's victory over the russian aggressor.
After the service, Metropolitan Symeon thanked Bishop Theognost and Father Roman for the invitation and joint prayer. Metropolitan Oleksandr presented to the church an icon with a part of the relics of St. John the New Great Martyr of Suceava, the patron saint of Bukovyna.
At the end of the welcoming remarks, a procession was held to the oldest church in Bukovyna, the Church of the Ascension, a monument of the fifteenth century. The bishops, clergy, and faithful prayed in the ancient church for the defenders of the Motherland, the government, the Ukrainian people, and Ukraine's victory over the russian invaders.
