On October 27, 2024, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine consecrated the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine in Khust, Zakarpattia, and also led the first Divine Liturgy there. This is reported by the official website of the OCU.
This beautiful and majestic church was built by the Rector, Archpriest Ihor Pistun, together with the community for nine years.
The Primate of the local Ukrainian Orthodox Church was concelebrated by Metropolitan Symeon of Vinnytsia and Bar, Metropolitan Yevstratiy of Bila Tserkva, Bishop Cyril of Uzhhorod and Khust, Bishop Photiy of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol, Bishop Varsonofiy of Uzhhorod and Zakarpattia, the Rector of the church, Archpriest Ihor Pistun, local and invited clergy.
During the liturgy, Archpriest Viktor Khudyak and Archpriest Valeriy Mykytyuk were awarded another priestly award for their zealous service to the Church - the right to wear the mitre.
After reading the Gospel, the Primate of the Autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church delivered a sermon.
During the service, prayer requests were made for the soldiers who defend Ukraine, for the government and our people, and for the repose of the souls of all the fallen defenders of the Motherland and civilians.
Metropolitan Epifaniy also offered a special prayer to the Lord at a time when the Motherland is in danger.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Primate presented the liturgical Gospel and a cross to the church, and also awarded the Rector, Archpriest Igor Odren, with the St. Nicholas and Wonderworker's Order, and high church awards - patrons and benefactors.
Bishop Varsonofiy, in turn, expressed his gratitude to His Beatitude for the visit and presented a bouquet of flowers.
The festive service ended with a solemn Mnogi lita (Many years).
