On the feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos and on the occasion of the 950th anniversary of the foundation of the Dormition Cathedral, the Divine Liturgy was led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphanius, Holy Archimandrite of the Holy Dormition Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, on August 28, 2023. The Primate of the autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church was concelebrated by Metropolitan Symeon of Vinnytsia and Bar, Metropolitan John of Cherkasy and Chyhyryn, Metropolitan Nestor of Ternopil and Kremenets, Metropolitan Hilarion of Rivne and Ostroh, Metropolitan Yevstratiy of Bila Tserkva, Archbishop Lavrentiy of Luhansk and Starobilsk, Archbishop Tikhon of Ternopil and Buchach, Bishop Theognost of Bohorodchany, Bishop Anthony of Chernihiv and Nizhyn, Bishop Ephraim of Vasylkiv, Acting Superior of the Holy Dormition Kyiv Cave Monastery Archimandrite Abraham and numerous clergy.
After reading the Gospel, His Beatitude delivered a sermon and offered a special prayer to the Lord at a time when the Motherland is in danger.
During the service, prayer requests were also made for the soldiers defending Ukraine, for the government and our people, and for the repose of the souls of all the fallen defenders of the Motherland and civilians.
The service ended with a festive cross procession around the church, after which Metropolitan Epiphanius awarded the acting director general of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Reserve Maxim Ostapenko, the scientific supervisor of the restoration of the Dormition Cathedral Anatoly Antoniuk, and other benefactors of the monastery.
