On 29 August 2023, on the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, a prayer for the fallen warriors was held at the Transfiguration Cathedral in Vinnytsia. The memorial service was performed by Metropolitan Symeon of Vinnytsia and Bar in concelebration with the cathedral clergy. The Archpastor called on the parishioners to pray constantly for the heroes who gave the most precious thing they had, their lives, for the future of their country and the Ukrainian people. "Our prayer is a sign of our Christian love and gratitude to those who died so that we could live, pray and work in a free and peaceful country," emphasised Metropolitan Symeon.
After the service in the temple, all those present, led by the Metropolitan, went to the Wall of Remembrance with photographs of Vinnytsia residents who died in the war, which was recently installed on Taras Shevchenko Square next to the Cathedral. At this place, Metropolitan Symeon celebrated a memorial litany for the deceased and consecrated the memorial.
Metropolitan Symeon also prayed for the fallen defenders of Ukraine in front of the memorial plaques installed directly on the territory of the Transfiguration Cathedral, which are engraved with the names of the fallen soldiers from Vinnytsia region.
The same day, Metropolitan Symeon, along with the leaders of the region and the city, military personnel, and members of the public, took part in a flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial Wall on Shevchenko Square.
